Classes were placed in order by topic to provide a journey through the design of a creative and dynamic social dance. The first day of classes will cover technique and theory. Even if you are a beginner (that is, have taken several Lindy Hop series and can lead/follow six and eight count patterns effectively) you'll find the material for the first day of classes accessible. The second day of classes will focus on showmanship and choreography, yet the techniques for dancing covered in the first day will apply directly to Sunday's classes. Sunday's classes will be especially challenging for people who are interested in performance and competitive dancing. As a reminder: the teachers have been encouraged to not dilute any of the material, but regardless of your skill level, you will find a challenge in each class you take. Be prepared to push the boundaries of your knowledge and skill set! |
Registration & Warm-up Dancing 10:30-11:00 Go to costs and registration page for early registration, all workshops, student and CSDS member discounts. Gray's Anatomy of a Swing Out 11:00-12:10 Noëlle Gray The more we learn as dancers the more we realize that our basics can always use a tweak here or there. As an introduction to the weekend, Noëlle will share some of her favorite games and exercises to help you "tune in" to your partnership and feel every count of the Swing Out from your toes to your fingertips. Momentum: Creation and Continuation 12:20-1:30 Jerone Gagliano An exchange of momentum from one move to the next (and within a move) is pure exhilaration! In this class we’ll focus on how the leaders and followers are equally responsible for the development and continuation of the movement. We'll have ourselves a great time playing with the momentum of a few moves to create new ones, and see how momentum influences our styling. Lunch Break 1:30-2:30 Lines and Levels 2:30-3:40 Ben Oaks-Lee The focus of this class will be on our movement while we are dancing with respect to floor craft and musicality. You, too, can easily create a dynamic looking dance based on how you position yourself in relation to your partner! Tangoed Up 3:50-5:00 Amanda Gruhl Curious about tango-swing fusion? In this class we'll teach you some basic but very cool tango moves then show you how to integrate them smoothly into your swing or blues. No prior knowledge of tango necessary. |
